Director
Skills Test
In 2005 Exemplar released reputedly the “world’s
first” Directors on-line web-based skills test which
is used as part of the performance evaluation tools on directors
and boards. The test is constantly under review to ensure
that it stays up to date with current laws and industry trends.
Under the control of the Chairman of the Board, the Director
Skills Test is used to highlight the opportunities to train
up directors on particular subjects and not pick out the weaknesses
shown by the test score. All results are totally confidential
and used by the Chairman for one-on-one performance review
of each director.
Exemplar can, at the invitation of the Chairman and the full
knowledge of the directors, be an observer at the board meetings
so that it can give feed-back to the Chairman on the performance
of each director. In conjunction with a Board Self-Assessment
Questionnaire, completed by each director and used with the
Skills Test results, it forms part of the Exemplar Board Evaluation
Process.
The Director core competencies/practical capabilities module,
takes 60 minutes and tests on:
- Corporate governance
- Carbon tax and renewable energy
- Duties and responsibilities
- Risk management and internal controls
- Profit & Loss Reporting including
case studies
- Balance Sheet Reporting including case
studies
- Cash Flow Reporting including case studies
- Budgeting and planning including case
studies
- Key performance indicators (KPIs) and
ratio analysis including case studies
- Foreign exchange
- Accounting principles
There are 2 other modules that can be taken separately, which
are tested on:
- Numerical ability (60 minutes)
- Communication and comprehension ability
(15 minutes)

trends) for the following accounting staff positions:
- Chief Financial Officer
- Financial Controller
- Accountant
- Assistant Accountant
- Bookkeeper
- Accounts Payable Officer
- Accounts Receivable Officer
The Accounting core competencies/practical capabilities modules,
take 60 minutes and tests on basic accounting at the Accounts
Payable Officer and Accounts Receivable Officer level to corporate
governance, financial & management reporting (including
case studies) and risk management at the Chief Financial Officer
level.
There are 2 other modules that can be taken separately, which
are tested on:
- Numerical ability (60 minutes)
- Communication and comprehension ability
(15 minutes)
